This creative reuse project houses 96 aged care residents within a low rise tower. The existing hotel floor plates had to be altered to maximize retained resident rooms while inserting dining rooms, sitting rooms, service rooms and the required upgrade in building services necessary for a modern aged care facility. The existing ground floor function area and foyers provided an excellent canvas for the destination areas of an Aged Care Facility with Dining, Lounge, Salon, Beauty Centre, Theatre and Wellness Centre all provided.
The project also required the inclusion of a new service lift throughout all levels of the building including the two basements. This was a challenging and rewarding process as it was the key to this existing building being able to have a second lease of life as a wonderful home for some of Ipswich’s most senior residents.

The existing building was a business hotel right in the middle of the Ipswich CPD. The use provided challenges for the design as multiple common areas had to be added to all residential levels and a service lift sized for beds had to be installed through all levels. We worked with extremely tight tolerances and a committed builder and consultant team to deliver a wonderful Aged Care outcome.
