About Us

We formed GJG Architects to continue to provide our clients with exceptional service in designing and delivering great buildings. Although specialising in Aged care, we work across all building sectors and our clients and building users are always our primary focus.

Expertise in Aged Care Design

Our extensive experience in Aged Care design has provided us a wealth of knowledge to call on- we know this is vital to any future Aged Care Project.

Our three directors have a combined experience in Aged Care and Retirement Building Design, Documentation and Delivery of over 65 years. We have a clear understanding of industry best practice from our project experiences with many aged care and retirement providers over the past three decades. Some of our current and previous clients are major national aged care providers including Opal, Japara and Infinite Care as well as established regional players such as PresCare, RSLCare and Rockpool.

Aged Care design particularly is a spiritually rewarding field to be in. One of the reasons is when we walk around facilities we have designed, we get the feeling we have made a difference to the lives of the residents who live there, the people who visit and the staff who work there. Our ongoing relationships with our clients have enabled us to view facilities in operation to test the designs in practice.

We see the residents of our buildings as central to our design process and philosophy. After all, this is their home at one of the most vulnerable times of their life. It would be simplistic though to think of the residents as the only stakeholder. The other key stakeholders we always need to consider in our designs are the staff, visitors and owners/operators.

Our History

GJG Architects was established in 2020. Our directors have known and worked with each other for over thirty years including long periods of time with our predecessor, now retired architect Gary Garnett.

The current directors of GJG Architects obtained a wealth of experience in and around the Aged Care and Retirement field as well as many industry contacts.

Michael is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Architects and a registered architect in Queensland. He holds degrees in Architecture and Applied Science-Built Environment with honours. Michael is particularly skilled in conceptual planning and client liaison. He has 30 years experience in the Architectural field, the vast majority of which has been designing, documenting and delivering Aged Care and Retirement Villages.

Phillip is a registered architect in Queensland and is a corporate member of the Australian Institute of Architects. He holds degrees in Architecture and Applied Science-Built Environment. Phillip is a rigorous architect who always designs with the needs of the client foremost. He has three decades experience in the Design, Documentation and Delivery of Aged Care and Retirement Living developments.

Craig is an Architectural Technician, Designer, Cad Operator and Draftsman with over 30 years of experience in all fields of building development. As well as being a skilled designer Craig is a documentation expert having cut his teeth on high rise apartments and education projects. He has been working in the field of Aged Care and Retirement Living for more than 20 years and has a thorough knowledge of the sector.
